Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board Ousts Superintendent Hill in 5-4 Vote Amid Financial Probe
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted 5-4 to terminate Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill for convenience, effective immediately. The decision follows a two-month internal investigation that found no evidence of improper conduct or conflicts of interest. Hill is entitled to one year of severance pay, approximately $341,000. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Melissa Balknight has been appointed as acting superintendent. The move occurs amid a state criminal investigation into district financial irregularities and the resignation of Board Chair Stephanie Sneed.
