Ugandan Journalist Crowned Tooro King Amid Heir Dispute
Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a 56-year-old former journalist, was crowned the new king of Uganda’s Tooro kingdom on September 29, 2026. The coronation followed the August death of King Oyo at age 34 and a bitter succession dispute. While the royal clan selected Kijanangoma, the queen mother contested the decision, claiming a will named an unpublicized son as the rightful heir.
