New Jersey software glitch briefly registered noncitizens to vote, governor says
A serious software error at New Jersey’s DMV registered about 6,600 non-U.S. citizens to vote between June 2023 and June 2024, with fewer than 400 of them actually casting ballots. The issue occurred when applicants answered they were not citizens on a keypad; the vendor running the ID system will be replaced. Gov. Mikie Sherrill called the failures reckless and said the state will fix the problem, noting it feeds national debates over voting rules.
