Ovechkin's Reduced Role and Contract Talks Shape Final NHL Season
Alex Ovechkin is playing his final NHL season with the Washington Capitals after initially discussing a two-year deal. The 41-year-old captain signed a one-year contract worth $1 million in salary plus bonuses, a decision influenced by his drastically reduced ice time and the team's new roster depth. While the Capitals aim for a Stanley Cup in his farewell year, Ovechkin's role has shifted to a supporting one, with his final game set for April 2027.
