TikTok's Employee Matchmaking and Return-to-Office Tracking Stir Controversy
TikTok employees worldwide are using a matchmaking service called "Meet Cute" on the Lark platform, developed by ByteDance, to set up their colleagues with potential romantic partners. The service allows employees to post personal ads for family members, friends, and acquaintances, complete with photos and attributes. While this practice is common in Chinese tech companies, it has raised concerns among some TikTok employees, who feel it encroaches on personal boundaries. ByteDance has stated that the Meet Cute function was designed for mainland China employees only, but a technical bug briefly allowed employees in other markets to access it.
