UPS and Teamsters Reach Deal to End Two-Tier Wage System and Avoid Strike
United Parcel Service (UPS) is nearing a deal with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to avoid a potential strike over the nation's largest private-sector collective bargaining agreement. The agreement would address issues such as ending a two-tier employment system, eliminating forced overtime work, and establishing Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a paid holiday. The Teamsters had planned a strike but postponed it after UPS made a counterproposal. The current labor agreement expires at the end of July, and both parties are working towards reaching a new permanent deal.
