Lawsuit targets Beaver County Shell cracker plant.
The Environmental Integrity Project and Clean Air Council have filed a federal lawsuit against the Shell Polymers Monaca Plant in Beaver County, accusing the company of repeatedly violating permitted air pollution limits. The groups are calling for strict penalties and a halt to what it calls the "illegal release of smog-forming pollutants." The plant received $1.6 billion in taxpayer subsidies from the state to build, and the groups are demanding that Shell follows the law and not make Pennsylvania taxpayers breathe in their illegal pollution.
