Vail Resorts posted a 7% revenue decline to $90.4 million in the third quarter, citing unusually poor snow across the western U.S. during Spring Break and lowering its full-year forecast; Epic Pass sales dropped 10% year over year—the largest decline since its 2008 launch—while Colorado ski areas saw 24% fewer visitors and days open fall to 129 from 144.
A snow-starved winter forced Vail Resorts to cut its earnings forecast, with skier visits down about 11.9% through March 1 and declines across ski school, dining, rentals, and lift tickets. The company lowered its annual target from about $842–$898 million to $745–$775 million as Epic Pass sales slow and promotions (younger-pass discounts and half-price tickets for friends/family) aim to spur demand, while stock remained under pressure.
Epic has released its 2024-25 season prices, with a noticeable increase compared to the previous season, making it take longer to break even on the passes. The prices for the Epic Pass and the Local Pass have gone up, with the Epic Pass now priced at $982 and the Epic Local Pass at $731. Vail Resorts attributed the price increase to inflation and additional access to different mountains, while Ikon Pass prices for the next season have not yet been released.
