Lufthansa slashes 20,000 short-haul flights to curb jet fuel bill
Lufthansa will cancel about 20,000 short-haul flights through October to save more than 40,000 metric tons of jet fuel as costs have doubled since the Iran conflict, including the early retirement of CityLine’s fleet; affected hubs include Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels and Rome, with schedules to be revised and affected passengers notified. Other European carriers are taking similar steps amid an energy crunch, and EU policy measures are in the works.
