Norway Imposes Daily Fine on Meta for Privacy Breach
Norway's data protection authority, Datatilsynet, has announced that it will fine Meta Platforms, the owner of Facebook, 1 million crowns ($98,500) per day starting from August 14th due to privacy breaches. The regulator had previously warned Meta that it would face fines if it did not address the identified privacy breaches. The fine will run until November 3rd, and if the European Data Protection Board agrees with the decision, it could have wider implications across Europe. Meta's recent announcement of seeking user consent for targeted advertising in the European Union was deemed insufficient by Datatilsynet, which emphasized the need for immediate cessation of personal data processing.
