Bank of Montreal has launched a new product, the Max SPX 500 4x leveraged ETNs, which allows regular investors to make bets that move four times the direction of the stock market on any given day. However, this high leverage strategy comes with significant risks, and the product is designed for short-term trading. The ETNs are more expensive than traditional passive index funds and carry credit risk. While similar products have been approved in the past, they have not been launched. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has cautioned that leveraged and inverse products are not suitable for long-term investments.
