Eye of Quebec: giant crater lake guarding bears and a conservation push
Quebec's Eye of Quebec is a giant ring-shaped lake larger than Greater London, formed by a 214-million-year-old asteroid impact. Its central uplift Mount Babel remains, and the island at the crater’s center, René-Levasseur, hosts the Louis-Babel Ecological Reserve with boreal wildlife including black bears. Today conservation groups and Indigenous communities seek park status for the area amid ongoing logging disputes and efforts to protect the habitat.
