NYC Mayor Adams proposes housing migrants in houses of worship and private homes.
New York City Mayor Adams has announced a new faith-based shelter program to house migrants in houses of worship, with private residents being the next step. The program will be run by the nonprofit New York Disaster Interfaith Services and will cost the city $125 per person per day. The initiative will include five centers that offer migrants a place to go during the day. The city estimates that the program will initially host nearly 1,000 asylum seekers, with the potential for further expansion. The mayor has been struggling to address the inflow of migrants to the city, with homeless shelters at capacity and many city hotels brimming.
