False emergency calls overwhelm Android's shortcut feature.
Android's easy-access emergency call feature, which allows users to press the power button five times to dial emergency services, is causing a surge of false calls to emergency dispatch. The feature was added to Android 12 a year and a half ago, but due to the unique way Android is rolled out, it is only now hitting enough people to become a national problem. Google says it's working on a fix with Android OEMs, but until then, users are advised to turn off the feature.
