Beware of Deceptive Chronic Diarrhea Solutions
Gastroenterologist Nassim Hammoudi highlighted the importance of distinguishing between genuine and false diarrhea in the management of chronic diarrhea. False diarrhea, which is often the cause of most consultations, can be caused by factors such as constipation, tenesmus, and anal incontinence. After ruling out false diarrhea, clinicians should be vigilant for warning signs of underlying conditions such as colorectal cancer. Other causes of chronic diarrhea include motility issues, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), malabsorption, and secretory diarrhea. Proper diagnosis and management of these conditions are crucial for effective treatment.
