Met Gala 2027 Theme Sparks Debate: Galliano Retrospective Draws Scrutiny
The Met’s Costume Institute has announced the spring 2027 exhibition, “John Galliano: Horizons,” honoring the designer’s work across Dior, Givenchy, Margiela, and his label. While it celebrates his influence on fashion, the show also revisits Galliano’s 2011 antisemitic outbursts and two hate-crime convictions. Vogue’s Anna Wintour defends him, saying his career isn’t defined by a single moment, and curator Andrew Bolton says the exhibit will confront the controversies as part of Galliano’s broader story, making him the third living designer to be the exhibit focus.
