The USS Iowa SSN 797, the first U.S. Navy submarine to bear Iowa's name, was officially christened in Connecticut. The ceremony was watched by people from across the state, with 13 watch parties held. The submarine is the first attack submarine designed to provide privacy and accommodations for female service members. It is expected to be officially commissioned later this year or early next year.
