Whole Foods Signs Lease for Vacant Old Town Grocery Site
Whole Foods Market has signed a lease to open a store at 1639 N. Wells St. in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood, filling a space vacant since the closure of Treasure Island in 2018. The deal fulfills a commitment made by developer Fern Hill during the approval process for a nearby apartment tower. While no opening date has been set, the lease resolves a years-long effort to restore a full-service grocery store to the area.
