Single Hydrogen Atom Acts as Nano-Switch in Living Organisms
Researchers in Japan have discovered a "nano-switch" mechanism in ferredoxin, a universal electron carrier protein, controlled by a single hydrogen atom. This mechanism, crucial for redox reactions like respiration and photosynthesis, involves changes in the electric potential of the iron-sulfur cluster based on the presence of a hydrogen atom. The study, published in eLife, enhances understanding of biological reactions and could lead to advancements in sensor technology and drug development.
