"Quantum Sculpting: Creating Ferromagnetic Topological Insulators for Future Electronics"
Researchers from the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat have designed a ferromagnetic topological insulator MnBi6Te10 from the manganese bismuth telluride family, which conducts electrons without any resistance and is regarded as a promising breakthrough in materials science. The ferromagnetic properties of this quantum material only occur when some atoms swap places, introducing antisite disorder. The researchers are currently working to achieve ferromagnetism at considerably higher temperatures, which could revolutionize computers by making them more sustainable and energy-efficient.
