UFC CEO Backs California Push to Ban Oblique Kicks Amid Safety Debate
UFC CEO Dana White has publicly supported a proposal by the California State Athletic Commission to ban oblique kicks in mixed martial arts. The debate was reignited after a controversial bout at UFC 331, where fighter Edmen Shahbazyan complained about legal knee strikes. While officials and some critics argue the technique poses a high risk of career-ending ligament damage, other fighters and coaches contend it is a legitimate, defensible strike and that regulatory focus should remain on clearly illegal actions like eye pokes.
