Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, with Firesprite (Sony) developing the game and AdHoc Studio—the Dispatch team—handling narrative duties. A Deluxe Digital Edition adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack and Diorama of Death, and pre-orders from September 10 unlock Dr. Hill outfits and bobbleheads.
Firesprite Studio reportedly worked on a PSVR Breaking Bad VR experience around 2017–2018, described as a narrative VR “experience” rather than a full game, which was canceled about a year after the initial reports. A second shelved project was a sci‑fi horror IP with Body horror visuals, also never released. Despite layoffs and several canceled entries (including a Twisted Metal battle royale), the studio has continued development on other titles, including rumored projects like Project Heartbreak (a potential Until Dawn sequel) and Project Pillar using Unreal Engine 5.
PlayStation studio Firesprite is accused of fostering a toxic workplace culture, with allegations of sexual discrimination and ageism against two senior leaders from Sony support studio XDev resulting in 13 grievance complaints. Sony's internal investigation reportedly found these claims to be a "misunderstanding". Staff at Firesprite describe the new leadership as "tyrants" and "bullies", with some speculating that the founders were forced out by Sony. PlayStation recently announced layoffs, including reductions at Firesprite, but has not issued an official response to the investigation.
