A Simple One-Leg Stand Could Hint at Longer Life
A Taiwanese study of 13,000+ adults aged 65 and older followed for about seven years found that higher performance on simple at-home fitness tests—especially the 8-foot up-and-go and standing on one leg—was linked to substantially lower mortality risk (top performers ~50% lower than bottom). Men benefited most from balance and agility, women from lower-body strength; researchers say these quick tests could help doctors gauge aging and guide targeted exercises to improve balance, strength and endurance.
