HHS Unveils $10M Prize Competition to Revive Presidential Fitness Test in Schools
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has launched a $10 million prize competition to encourage schools and youth organizations to implement the Presidential Fitness Test. Announced in Austin, Texas, the initiative offers $7 million in cash awards for innovative implementation strategies and $3 million in equipment vouchers. Applications open on a new federal website, Fitness.gov, with a submission deadline of February 5, 2027. The move aims to boost participation in the test, which President Trump revived via executive order last year but is currently only mandatory for 161 schools on military installations.
