Windows 11 patch makes File Explorer remember folder views everywhere
Microsoft's Release Preview update KB5083631 (Build 26200.8313) fixes inconsistent File Explorer folder views by persisting view settings (sorting, icon size, layout, Group by) across openings from any app or path, thanks to a fix related to Shell Bags/BagMRU. The update also improves launch performance, reduces a dark‑mode white flash, and adds support for new archive formats, with a rollout to regular Windows 11 PCs expected by May 2026; a modern File Explorer search bar is also being tested for later introduction.
