Dave Grohl says he had absolutely nothing to do with his daughter Violet’s signing to a record deal, revealing he only learned about it at dinner. He describes himself as a hands-off dad whose daughter independently made the album with producer Justin Raisin. Grohl praises Violet’s independence, noting her success inspired him, and mentions Foos’ forthcoming album My Favorite Toy (out April 24) as they perform in the UK at intimate shows.
Charli XCX applauds Dave Grohl and his daughter Harper’s viral ‘Apple’ dance after watching the clip on The Graham Norton Show, where the Foo Fighters performed “Your Favorite Toy” from their upcoming album Your Favorite Toy (out April 24). The performance featured Jason Falkner on guitar, a nod to Pat Smear with a photo on the kick drum, and comes as Grohl reflects on aging and the band’s enduring chemistry with new drummer Ilan Rubin as they prep their 12th studio release.
Dave Grohl says the Foo Fighters’ decision to move on from drummer Josh Freese was a collective, months-long process; the band called Freese to break the news and pursue a new direction, as they gear up for their 12th album Your Favorite Toy and an Australia–NZ stadium tour. Freese joined in 2023 after Taylor Hawkins’ death and has since pursued other projects.

Dave Grohl says Foo Fighters’ firing of Josh Freese was a band decision made in 2024 during a shift after Taylor Hawkins’ death, not an overnight move, and the group brought in Ilan Rubin as their drummer. Freese had previously said he didn’t resonate with the band’s music, and the broader 2025 drummer-swapping saga also saw Freese return to Nine Inch Nails; the interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music previews the band's new album.
Foo Fighters have told drummer Josh Freese that the band is moving in a different direction and will no longer be playing with him, with longtime Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin set to join. Freese, who joined in 2023 after Taylor Hawkins’s death, said the split came after a band-wide discussion about a new direction. Grohl stressed the change wasn’t abrupt and reflected the band’s evolving path post-Hawkins, as they prepare for a stadium tour. Freese will return to Nin during this period.
