DOJ Charges Ex-FBI Officials With Lying to Congress on Hunter Biden Laptop Probe
Two former senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides, have been criminally charged with lying to Congress regarding their roles in the bureau’s investigation of Hunter Biden’s laptop. The charges, filed via a criminal complaint rather than a grand jury indictment, stem from testimony given in 2023. Prosecutors allege the pair falsely denied involvement in the Foreign Influence Task Force’s handling of the laptop case. The case was unsealed just days before the November 2026 midterm elections, prompting defense attorneys to argue the timing is politically motivated. Both defendants appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C., on Friday and are due back for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
