Utah Sues Freddie Whittingham Over Breach After Michigan Move
The University of Utah has filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Freddie Whittingham, alleging he abandoned his role as tight ends coach to join his brother Kyle Whittingham at Michigan in January 2026. Utah says he left without written consent or notice, aided recruiting Utah players to Michigan, and violated contract terms requiring liquidated damages; the program seeks more than $300,000 in damages plus at least $1 million in general and punitive damages. Whittingham had been with Utah since 2012 and was under contract through Jan. 31, 2027 with a $525,000 annual base salary.
