Texas Judge Rejects Karmelo Anthony's New Trial Bid in Fatal Stabbing
A Texas judge has denied former NBA star Karmelo Anthony’s request for a new trial in the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The ruling upholds Anthony’s 35-year prison sentence for the stabbing that occurred at a high school track meet in Frisco. The decision follows a previous judge’s removal for bias and rejects defense claims that trial restrictions and an unwritten evidence agreement violated Anthony’s rights. Prosecutors maintained that Anthony was the aggressor in the confrontation, while the defense argued that withheld evidence and procedural issues compromised the original verdict. Anthony’s legal team plans to continue appealing the conviction.
