Deadly Listeria Outbreak Triggers Nationwide Fruit Recall

HMC Farms is recalling various fruits, including whole peaches, plums, and nectarines, sold nationwide under multiple brand names due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected batches were sold between May 1 to Nov. 15, 2022, and May 1 to Nov. 15, 2023. Listeria monocytogenes infection can be serious and sometimes fatal, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are at risk of miscarriages and stillbirths. While there have been 11 reported cases nationwide, no illnesses in Hawaii have been linked to the recalled fruits. Consumers are advised to contact a physician if they have concerns.
