Gail Perkins, the owner of a Southeast D.C. home where a Valentine’s Day standoff with police occurred, expressed her lack of knowledge about the situation until she saw it on the news. She had been trying to evict the man staying in her home for months and had grown increasingly concerned about his presence due to reports of an unsafe environment caused by loose dogs. Perkins and her son had been trying to evict the man and were frustrated with the red tape they encountered in the process. She commended the police and called for new laws for tenants and landlords in Washington, D.C.
