James Tolkan, Iconic Top Gun and Back to the Future Villain, Dies at 94
James Tolkan, known for his stern roles as a naval commander in Top Gun and a hard-edged high school administrator in Back to the Future, died at age 94 in Lake Placid, New York. Born in Michigan and a Navy veteran, Tolkan had a long theater career and was part of the original Glengarry Glen Ross cast. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Parmelee Welles, with no cause of death released.
