Syracuse lands 2027 five-star forward Kamissoko in McNamara's first major recruiting win
Moussa Kamissoko, a five-star small forward and No. 7 recruit in the 2027 class, has committed to Syracuse, marking a significant recruiting breakthrough for new head coach Gerry McNamara. The Bronx native, who plays at SPIRE Academy in Ohio, chose the Orange over offers from Florida State, Illinois, Providence, UConn, Louisville, and Baylor. This commitment is the first major high-school recruit for McNamara since he took over the program in April, following a roster rebuild that relied heavily on mid-major transfers and international prospects. While Syracuse had landed a five-star recruit just two years prior under previous leadership, that player’s impact was limited by injury and subsequent transfer. Analysts suggest that Kamissoko’s arrival signals a higher ceiling for the program, but his success will depend on McNamara’s ability to develop the current roster and implement a cohesive offensive identity. The commitment is viewed as a positive sign for the future of Syracuse basketball, particularly given the program’s historical reliance on New York-area talent.
