Ubisoft’s cost-cutting drive, including shuttering Red Storm Entertainment and laying off about 105 staff, is already forcing major titles—like the next Ghost Recon (codename OVR) and the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake—to be scaled back or delayed, with insiders warning that further cuts totaling around €100 million could hollow out pipelines across the publisher’s lineup; Ubisoft had not commented at publication.
Insider Gaming reports Ubisoft has ended development at Red Storm Entertainment, the studio behind Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. At the time of layoffs, Red Storm was reportedly working on at least 10 Ubisoft projects — including Rainbow Six Siege seasonal content, a new Ghost Recon title codenamed Project OVR, Brawlhalla, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Slice & Dice, Splinter Cell, Division 2 audio, Division 3 concepts, Watch Dogs Director’s Cut, and another unannounced project — with over 100 staff let go. The studio is shifting to Snowdrop/IT support, and more cost-cutting moves are anticipated.
Ubisoft has officially confirmed they are developing a new first-person Ghost Recon game, which is expected to be a tactical, realistic military shooter targeting a 2026 release, with Tencent's investment supporting the project.
