"Recorded Music Revenues Surge 10% in 2023, But Industry Faces Transformational Challenges Ahead"
The IFPI Global Music Report 2024 reveals that global music sales grew by over 10% to $28.6 billion in 2023, marking the ninth consecutive year of growth. Paid streaming subscription revenue rose by 11.2%, reaching $14 billion and accounting for nearly half of global music sales. Physical record sales and performance rights revenues also saw strong gains, while digital downloads and other non-streaming digital formats declined. The U.S. remains the top music market, with the fastest-growing market being China. The report also highlights the increasing impact of AI on the music industry and the need to protect artists' rights in the face of technological transformation.
