Heatstroke Claims Lives at Indian Government Awards Ceremony
Thirteen people have died from heatstroke in India's Maharashtra state after attending a state award ceremony on Sunday, with between 50 to 60 people hospitalized. Over 1 million people attended the ceremony, with many more believed to have sought medical care in their local district. The state government will provide compensation to the families of the deceased and cover medical expenses of those undergoing treatment. Heat waves in India have become more intense, frequent, and longer in recent years.
