Engineer Sick-Out Halts 72% of Washington State Ferries, Governor Intervenes
Washington State Ferries (WSF) suspended 72% of its routes on Monday, October 5, after 23 engine-room employees called out sick and remaining qualified staff refused to cover the shifts. The disruption affected major corridors, including Seattle to Bainbridge Island and Anacortes to the San Juan Islands. Governor Ferguson met with union representatives and promised full service restoration by Tuesday morning.
