Mamdani-backed bid flops in Greenwich Village council race as Wilson takes early lead
In the Manhattan District 3 special election for Greenwich Village, a candidate handpicked by Mayor Zohran Mamdani performed far below expectations, with Lindsey Boylan at about 25% and Layla Law-Gisiko around 20% as Carl Wilson led at just over 43%; since no candidate surpassed 50%, the winner will be decided via ranked-choice voting. Wilson, backed by Speaker Julie Menin, represents the establishment option in a race to fill the seat vacated by Erik Bottcher. The result could temper Mamdani’s influence in other races and suggests his political sway may not automatically translate into district-level wins.
