Judge Nullifies Brooklyn Democratic Party Rule Changes, Blocking Chair's Power Grab
A New York Supreme Court judge ruled that Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn’s attempt to overhaul party bylaws was invalid, blocking her effort to expand the executive committee and retain control ahead of a leadership vote. The ruling, issued by Judge Jill Epstein, declared the August vote a nullity because outgoing district leaders who lost in June primaries were improperly allowed to vote. While the party plans to appeal, the decision preserves the status quo for a September 23 meeting where a new chair may be selected. The controversy is intertwined with allegations that Mayers, a political consultant, has a dominant role in selecting judicial nominees, raising concerns about corruption and the influence of party leadership on court appointments.
