
Veteran Actor Michael Byrne, Indy and Potter Villain, Dies at 82
Michael Byrne, the British character actor known for Nazi Colonel Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the elderly wizard Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, died on June 20 at age 82, The Guardian reported. A National Theatre stalwart who shared the stage with Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith, Byrne’s career spanned war films in the 1970s and later roles in Braveheart, Apt Pupil, The Good Father, Gangs of New York and Quartet. Survived by his wife Carole Nimmons, and daughters Tara and Bryony, he left a legacy across stage and screen.
