9/11 Forced Rockstar to Invent the Iconic GTA Cover Art in 48 Hours
The iconic segmented box art of Grand Theft Auto 3 was not the original plan. Former Rockstar lead Dan Houser revealed in a new interview that the design was created in just two evenings after the September 11 attacks made the original cover, which depicted burning buildings, too sensitive to release. This last-minute change, executed by artist Stephen Bliss, became the franchise's enduring visual template, influencing every subsequent game including the upcoming GTA 6.
