Indiana Police Chief Accused of Selling Evidence Gun to Pawn Shop
New Chicago Police Chief Earl Mayo is charged with theft, official misconduct, and attempted obstruction of justice after allegedly selling a Taurus G3 that was being held as evidence to Mega Gash Pawn in Hobart and trying to buy it back, and allegedly directing an officer to retrieve more guns and suppressors from his home. Taneka Borders is also charged for aiding Mayo; Mayo faces unlawful possession of anabolic steroids. Mayo was booked after authorities said he tried to evade arrest, and his father—a Lake County sheriff candidate—issued a statement amid the case.
