Indiana Woman Charged for False Gun Purchase Linked to Swedish Hospital Shooting
Federal prosecutors in Indiana charged Olivia Burgos with making false statements on firearm forms when buying a Glock 29 that was later used in the Swedish Hospital shooting in Chicago, saying she bought the gun for her boyfriend who was barred from possessing guns; Burgos admitted lying about the destination and other details on the paperwork, and the weapon was traced to a 2024 purchase in Merrillville, Indiana. The shooting, which also wounded a Chicago officer, killed a 10-year police veteran, Alphanso Talley is charged in the case, though Burgos is not charged for his actions. Burgos faces a federal count of making a material false statement in the acquisition of a firearm.
