Royals Propose $3B Downtown Stadium With Hallmark Partnership
The Kansas City Royals announced plans for a $3 billion, mixed-use downtown stadium in Crown Center, a venture with Hallmark Cards that would largely be privately funded (over $2 billion) with some public support from Missouri and the city; the project would replace Kauffman Stadium (built 1973) and keep the team in Missouri, but many details remain unsettled including funding contributions from Jefferson County, timing, and final approvals by the Kansas City council, with a lease through 2031.
