Saskatchewan Launches Second Mobile Mammography Unit to Boost Rural Screening
Saskatchewan unveiled its second mobile mammography unit to expand access to breast cancer screening in rural and northern communities. Together with the first unit, the two trailers will visit about 42 communities annually and screen roughly 6,000–7,500 people per unit each year, with 10-minute appointments, aiming to reach about 15,000 women. The project is funded by $5.2 million from the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan and more than $475,000 annually for operations, with the screening eligibility expanded to women 43 and older as of Jan. 2, 2026 (screenings recommended every two years for healthy women).
