
Pomegranate metabolite urolithin A improves heart relaxation in HFpEF models
Researchers found that urolithin A, a metabolite produced after eating pomegranates, improves heart relaxation and reduces harmful heart changes in models of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) by activating the PKGIα pathway; the results in animals and engineered human heart tissue suggest a new therapeutic target, but human trials are needed and dietary pomegranate intake should not be seen as a treatment.
