Fast charging can speed up battery aging—depending on design and temperature.
Fast charging delivers high current to recharge batteries quickly, but it can accelerate aging through processes like lithium plating and, at higher sizes, increased heat, potentially reducing capacity over time. Modern batteries vary in their ability to handle fast charging based on materials and design, and battery-management systems help prevent unsafe heat buildup. For longevity, avoid charging in hot or very cold environments (aim for about 20–25°C / 68–77°F), don’t keep devices constantly plugged in, and consider a 20–80% daily charging approach. You can use fast charging, but it may come with trade-offs in long-term capacity.
