A stray cat in downtown Helen, GA tested positive for rabies, prompting a White County public health alert. A visitor who tried to help the sick cat was bitten, the cat was euthanized, and its remains were sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab; alert signs have been posted and residents with exposure concerns are urged to call 706-348-7698. This is White County’s first rabies case of the year.
