Henderson Fire at Camp Pendleton Reaches 1,117 Acres Amid Santa Ana Winds
The Henderson Fire, a brush blaze on U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, has burned 1,117 acres following a rapid expansion fueled by Santa Ana winds. The fire, which started around 2 p.m. on October 15, prompted temporary closures of Interstate 5 and evacuations within the base, though all lanes of the freeway have since reopened. Firefighters deployed air tankers and ground crews to combat the blaze, which remains active with no containment reported as of the evening. The incident occurred during a regional high-wind event that also triggered separate fires in Malibu and Azusa.
