Shatner and daughter fought cancer together years ago, and both beat it
William Shatner, 95, and his daughter Melanie Shatner Gretsch revealed they battled cancer at the same time years ago: Shatner was diagnosed in June 2023 with Stage 4 malignant melanoma that spread to his lungs and brain and underwent tumor removal followed by two years of immunotherapy, while Melanie was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer that had spread to lymph nodes, endured about 18 months of chemotherapy, 30 radiation treatments and a double mastectomy; both were declared cancer-free by late 2024, and Shatner says the experience gave him a renewed appreciation for life.
